Het is een zinloos debat geworden waarbij voor- en tegenstanders elkaar bestoken met argumenten. Maar wie heeft er eigenlijk gelijk? Dit is wat Europa wilde weten en daarom heeft het Europees Milieuagentschap (EEA) een diepgaand onderzoek uitgevoerd voor de Europese Commissie. Het resultaat: een omvangrijk 80 pagina tellend rapport dat de levenscyclus analyse (LCA) van alle soorten elektrische voertuigen in kaart brengt en deze vergelijkt met conventionele voertuigen.<\/strong> <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-separator size_medium\"><\/div><div class=\"g-cols wpb_row via_grid cols_1 laptops-cols_inherit tablets-cols_inherit mobiles-cols_1 valign_top type_default stacking_default\" style=\"--columns-gap:3rem;\"><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><p>Laten we het CO2-debat nuchter beschouwen &#8211; het valt niet te ontkennen dat elektrische auto&#8217;s altijd beter zijn voor de volksgezondheid. Ze stoten geen emissies uit, behalve fijn stof van de banden en remblokken. Maar als u het breder bekijkt &#8211; en CO2 wordt een belangrijke factor &#8211; is er nog steeds veel discussie over de totale ecologische voetafdruk van elektrische auto&#8217;s en hun batterijen. Sceptici wijzen op de vervuilende productie van batterijen, de winning van grondstoffen in conflictgebieden, en stellen vragen over het hergebruik van batterijen en dan is er nog de kwestie van de elektriciteitsproductie. Omdat het aansluiten van een elektrische auto op een netwerk dat steenkool gebruikt voor energieproductie&#8230; gewoon het probleem doorschuiven is.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-separator size_medium\"><\/div><div class=\"g-cols wpb_row via_grid cols_3-1 laptops-cols_inherit tablets-cols_inherit mobiles-cols_1 valign_middle type_default stacking_default\" style=\"--columns-gap:3rem;\"><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><\/p>\n<h2>Minder broeikasgassen en er is nog steeds marge&#8230;<\/h2>\n<p> In deze studie heeft het Europees Milieuagentschap (European Environment Agency &#8211; EEA) grondig werk verricht en het rapport schetst de verschillende stadia van elektrische voertuigen: grondstoffen, productie, gebruik en einde van de levensduur (d.w.z. recycling). De definitie van elektrische voertuigen is zo breed mogelijk gebruikt: batterij-elektrisch voertuig (BEV), plug-in hybride elektrisch voertuig (PHEV), elektrische voertuigen met verlengde actieradius (REEV&#8217;s), hybride elektrische voertuigen (HEV&#8217;s) en brandstofcel-elektrische voertuigen (FCEV&#8217;s). Een van de eerste bevindingen is dat de productie van elektrische voertuigen 1,3 tot 2 keer meer broeikasgassen genereert dan auto&#8217;s met een verbrandingsmotor. Elektrische voertuigen compenseren dit echter ruimschoots op de weg. Op basis van de Europese elektriciteitsmix (een gemiddelde van alle vormen van energieopwekking) stoot de elektrische auto tussen 17% en 21% minder broeikasgassen uit dan dieselauto&#8217;s en tussen 26% en 30% minder dan benzineauto&#8217;s. De conclusie van het rapport is daarom duidelijk: zelfs in de huidige context van energieproductie is het gebruik van elektrische auto&#8217;s altijd voordelig. Aangezien de motoren geen uitlaat hebben, stoten ze geen stikstofoxiden, deeltjes of zwaveldioxide uit. Ook hier speelt de energiemix een belangrijke rol: in landen waar nog veel &#8216;vuile&#8217; energie wordt geproduceerd, is het verschil kleiner, omdat vooral kolencentrales ook ongezonde stoffen uitstoten. Elektrische auto&#8217;s stoten, net als andere auto&#8217;s, ook fijn stof uit door slijtage van het wegdek, de banden en de remblokken. Ze produceren echter veel minder geluidsoverlast, vooral in steden waar het verkeer langzamer gaat of vaak stilstaat.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-separator size_medium\"><\/div><div class=\"g-cols wpb_row via_grid cols_1 laptops-cols_inherit tablets-cols_inherit mobiles-cols_1 valign_top type_default stacking_default\" style=\"--columns-gap:3rem;\"><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><\/p>\n<h2>Productie<\/h2>\n<p> De impact van de productie is nog niet duidelijk: het productieproces kan volgens het rapport. zowel vuiler als schoner zijn dan dat van een conventionele auto. Het is echter duidelijk dat de productie van de batterij een grotere impact heeft door de ontginning van materialen zoals koper en nikkel. De batterijen kunnen ook giftige stoffen bevatten. De studie was gebaseerd op de batterijtechnologie die momenteel voornamelijk op de markt wordt gebruikt, namelijk Li-ion-batterijen. Aangezien er nieuwe technologie\u00ebn worden ontwikkeld (lithium-zuurstof, natrium-ion of aluminium-ion, enz.), zou dit de milieu-impact van elektrische auto&#8217;s in de toekomst nog verder kunnen verminderen. Het rapport vermeldt ook het feit dat China nu dominant is op de markt op het gebied van grondstoffen die nodig zijn voor de productie van batterijen. Dit brengt hetzelfde risico van afhankelijkheid met zich mee als nu het geval is met olie. Daarom stelt het rapport ook dat recycling essentieel is, zowel vanuit ecologisch als economisch oogpunt.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-separator size_medium\"><\/div><div class=\"g-cols wpb_row via_grid cols_3-1 laptops-cols_inherit tablets-cols_inherit mobiles-cols_1 valign_middle type_default stacking_default\" style=\"--columns-gap:3rem;\"><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><\/p>\n<h2>Conclusie<\/h2>\n<p> Is dit de studie die uitsluitsel geeft over de ecologische voetafdruk van de elektrische auto? Het bevat zeker cijfers die de elektrische auto in een gunstig daglicht stellen. Aan de andere kant blijft deze studie ook nogal vaag over een aantal &#8211; niet onbelangrijke &#8211; kwesties. De Europese Elektriciteitsmix is er daar \u00e9\u00e9n van. Grote landen zoals Duitsland zijn voor hun energievoorziening nog steeds afhankelijk van kolencentrales, wat elektrische auto&#8217;s veel minder gunstig maakt. Als elektrische auto&#8217;s hun volledig potentieel willen ontwikkelen, zal dit alleen mogelijk zijn in de context van groene energieproductie. We lezen ook aanbevelingen over recycling, maar niet over de mate van recycling of hoe we het probleem moeten aanpakken. Het ultieme onderzoek?
